OM3 Fiber Optical Pigtail is designed for 10G Ethernet transmission. If longer transmission distance is required, OM4 fiber needs to be selected. Additionally, both OM3 and OM4 fiber support speeds of 10 GB/s, 40 GB/s, and 100 GB/s.
OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber are available for 1GbE, 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE applications, but they have different transmission distances. The maximum transmission distances of OM3 under 1G, 10G, and 40G/100G are 1km, 300m, and 100m respectively. The maximum transmission distances of OM4 under 1G, 10G, and 40G/100G are 1km, 550m, and 150m respectively.
OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber have the same color, both are aqua blue. But in Europe and some American companies a new OM4 color has been proposed, namely violet.
